P.A.R.T.Y. 

Each month, 60 Freshman and Sophomore students attend this highly interactive program.  P.A.R.T.Y. is the ONLY program that involves every student throughout the time together. 

Following is a brief summary of the individual stations:

ER Doctor Presentation:

• Slide presentation by ER Doctor regarding equipment, process of intake and procedures to save or stabilize patient
• Discuss issues and various types of injuries seen in ER

Crash Car/Ambulance Presentation:

• Discuss hands-on scenario involving the students as volunteers and equipment used in recovery at crash site (backboards, collars, head gear, restraints, etc.)
• Discuss most common injuries; speeding, no seat belt, teens versus adults
• Walk students through common process at crash; transport, etc.

Emergency Room Presentation

• Explain use of equipment and intake procedure used in trauma care – use student as assistant when available
• Provide overview scenario of an incoming patient to ER or ICU and the steps the staff would take to care for the patient.
• Re-enforce loss of independence, lack of anesthesia for comfort and decision making on individual
• Discuss impact of injury on family, friends and future plans
• Discuss potential for breaking of ribs, teeth, etc. during intake
• View tools, tubes and devices associated with ER

Interactive Stations:

• Describe differences between brain and spinal cord injury (i.e. quadriplegia and paraplegia)
• Demonstrate with student participation various equipment used during rehabilitation
• Describe the effects of injuries on injury survivors; physically, socially and emotionally
• Discuss change in independence, self-esteem, family, friends, career goals and management of care
• Discuss personal aspects; bowel, bladder and skin care, sexuality

Injury Survivor Presentation: Question and answer period for students

• Injury survivors will speak frankly about the changes that happened to them
• Discussions includes family, friends, rehabilitation, how their lives have changed and how their choices have changed regarding life
• Survivors will share what life was like prior to injury and their current, altered life

CIB Presentation (Criminal Investigation Bureau)

• Students to experience the ‘drunk’ goggles
• Discussion regarding the legal consequences of possession of drugs or DUI
• Each session will be specific to the issues needing to be addressed from the school
• Discussion includes prescription drugs, bullying, fighting, alcohol, speeding, street racing, snowboarding, motorcycle safety and other risk related activities

Keynote Speaker

• Keynote speaker is a parent or person who has first hand experience of a crash or fatality.
• Speaker recounts crash circumstances and consequences.
• If family member, speaker shares how they found out about crash and how the rehabilitation and/or death affected and changed for family and friends.
